AWARDS 2022 FINALISTS
I have been painting my whole life. In other words, I am a painter. Right now, I am painting while going back and forth between a real world studio and a VR studio, and I often think about these sorts of things. Now that I think about it, artists paint the world in a flimsy 2D space known as a canvas while the world they imagine in their head is always 3D. What is this discrepancy or disconnect? People used to say in solo exhibitions and exhibition venues, "I want to see the inside of your head." Have the times caught up with us? Yes, please go ahead and take time to look around.
CREATOR PROFILE
Riku Shitara
painter|vr painter |JAPAN
Born in 1985, he graduated from Nagoya Zokei University. As a painter, he creates paintings and sculptures while shuttling between real world and VR studios. After the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he began to think about creating and presenting his work in VR, and at the end of 2021, he started to produce VR professionally while wearing Meta Quest 2 VR goggles. From the beginning, the main themes of his work have included a game-like worldview, virtual, delusions, and the story of the inner self. In recent years, he has been exploring the fusion of the real and virtual worlds and existence itself through his work.
