NEWVIEW AWARDS 2024
Award-Winning Works
Announcing the finalist works of the global XR creative award, "NEWVIEW AWARDS 2024," which newly established the Spatial Computing Category!
The theme: "Visions that weave context. - Reweaving the relationship between information and people."
Explore the award-winning creations of next-generation creators.
Since 2018, the NEWVIEW AWARDS has been held five times, discovering and nurturing next-generation artists and creators leading the XR (VR/AR/MR) field. In this sixth edition, the focus is on reframing and deconstructing information, space, and experiences in the real world through spatial computing, weaving new perceptions and evolving our narratives.
This year, the competition featured two categories: the Spatial Computing category, which sought content for Apple Vision Pro, and the Site-specific AR category, which invited AR works that leverage location-based experiences.
During the application period from August 21, 2024, to October 16, 2024, a total of 95 works from 10 countries were submitted (52 in Spatial Computing and 43 in AR). After a rigorous screening process by the secretariat, 19 works were selected as finalists (11 in Spatial Computing and 8 in AR).
Moving forward, the winners of the GOLD PRIZE and SPECIAL PRIZE will be given the opportunity to take on new challenges in expanding the possibilities of existing culture through XR as part of their award benefits.
Additionally, we have made some updates to the PRIZE categories.
Due to the high number of outstanding submissions deserving recognition, the jury has decided to introduce two new prizes: the SPECIAL RECOMMENDATION PRIZE and the JURY PRIZE.
Winners of these newly established prizes will receive a trophy along with comments from the judges.
We look forward to seeing what the award recipients create next!

the two award-winning works effectively utilize technology as a medium. I paid attention to such spiritual powers.
Art is prophetic and is expected to lead the times. However, what is called media art is often challenging, and many tend to follow behind technology rather than leading it. Therefore, in this year's judging, I focused more on the perspectives and approaches rather than the quality of implementation. Originally, technology and mediums (as in spiritual mediums) do not seem to naturally fit together, but the two award-winning works effectively utilize technology as a medium. I paid attention to such spiritual powers.

With the introduction of a new category for ‘spatial computing’, the competition not only expands the horizons of XR but also brings artistic visions and perspectives into the exploration of this still-emerging technology’s potential applications.
The NewView Award 2024 is a truly unique competition, as it is at the forefront of an exciting and forward-thinking fusion of art and technology. With the introduction of a new category for ‘spatial computing’, the competition not only expands the horizons of XR but also brings artistic visions and perspectives into the exploration of this still-emerging technology’s potential applications.
The participating artists are not only exploring the creative possibilities of new devices and its programming environments but also pushing their boundaries - demonstrating where further development have to focus in order to enhance both usability and utility.

In the XR scene, the introduction of the Vision Pro has significantly elevated the value of the experience.
In the XR scene, I believe there are two distinct directions: one that aspires to “a fusion with reality” and another that seeks “an experience detached from reality.” With the advent of Vision Pro, it seems that the experiential value of both directions has been dramatically enhanced.

This year's awards featured two categories: Spatial Computing and Site-specific AR. As a result, many of the submitted works had a strong connection to real-world elements. With the ongoing development of various devices, the demand for corresponding technologies will continue to grow. However, among the entries, those that stood out were not just technically advanced but also had a clear concept—works where the creators had a strong reason for making them and a well-defined message they wanted to express.
