Wyatt is a writer, photographer, filmmaker, and virtual reality artist who researches new ways to create and share immersive stories. His VR narratives focus on capturing and communicating nuanced human characters, the spaces in which we live, and the emotions embedded in our memories. He is a co-founder of Maku, a film and photography creative collective, and holds a BA in Psychology from Stanford.

I really liked Piece of String. I made a similar photogrammetry scan of my studio in Toronto and have been creating a lot of scans myself, but this was a very unique presentation. I loved the use of scale to explore the space and thought it was a very clever way to make a larger piece using a single asset. It would be cool to create a game with this concept with characters and take it a step further. Lots of potential here. Congratulations on the silver prize!

This project brought me back to my tiny apartment in Brooklyn. Every crack of detail feels familiar and it was depicted in a way that echoes with me. All the judges stood to explore every small corner just searching for more hidden treasure. It gave me an insight to want to recreate more spaces based on memory and its actual physicality. Should be interesting for both the designer and viewer.

I feel the artistic possibility that a very common room is guided through a casual act of following the code to re-examine the spatial relationship and scale, the existence of the environment of the room, and the existence of the self again. It made me feel once again that VR media is suitable for the act of extracting and editing meaning, where reality creates fiction, and fiction reconstructs and redefines the meaning of reality.

Since the work starts not with an inorganic space, but with a daily frame that mimics the author's own residence, it can naturally enter the space. The rules of space composition and story progression are very simple and clear, but it is a work that is continuously surprised by the inflection of space and drastic scene change. This virtual world, which is a virtual space separated from reality, feels like an extension of everyday life, and it seemed to be an extension of human creative expression.
