OTHER PERSPECTIVE
DETAILS OF THE WORK
"影響都 (City Echoing Shadows)” is an AR work that lets the viewer walk among the shadows of a city reduced to the scale of a human body. The AR shadows are overlapped with the current urban landscape, swaying under the sun which rotates in one-minute cycles. Also, as one approaches the shadows, the environmental sounds of the place are echoed. The more the shadow overlaps the point where the viewer is, the more the environmental sounds become blurred, luring the viewer to a place far away from the present city, while still being in the present city. By immersing oneself in the echoing shadows while overlooking them, one is reminded of memories of a past city that no longer has a form, or of illusions about a future city that does not yet have a form.
This work was created for the “Fluid City” exhibition held at the NEUU XR Communication Hub in Shinjuku in September 2024, and is therefore set in Shinjuku. The shifting shadows created by the distinctive buildings that line Shinjuku and the shifting sounds that evoke the hustle and bustle of the city invite the viewer to contemplate the different layers of Shinjuku that appear in each person's mind.
